AngloGold Ashanti, the world’s largest emerging market gold producer, will contribute to a range of important conversations concerning South Africa’s mining industry at this year’s Joburg Indaba. The event will be held between October 8th and 10th, at the Inanda Club in Sandton.

Chief Executive Officer Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan, better known as Venkat, has been an executive director at AngloGold Ashanti for almost a decade. He brings extensive knowledge of the company's portfolio of 20 mines in 10 countries, and also a deep experience of operating across a range of jurisdictions in Africa, the Americas and Australia. He has a unique perspective given strong capital markets expertise, as well as his pivotal role in eliminating a 12Moz hedge book and building long-term and diversified tenor in the gold major’s balance sheet.

AngloGold Ashanti’s Technology Innovation Consortium (ATIC), a cutting edge initiative to raise productivity in deep underground mines and also unlock sterilized ore reserves that may otherwise not be accessed, will feature in AngloGold Ashanti’s address. This initiative, led by an experienced team of operators and engineers in South Africa, is already in advanced testing. Crucially, ATIC also raises the potential of the secondary and tertiary production and support industries critical to further diversification of South Africa’s economy.

Productivity improvements are central to the long-term contribution of underground mining to South Africa’s economy, and to others around the world. The means of achieving this productivity gain will be actively debated amongst speakers and delegates alike at this year’s event.

The Joburg Indaba is attracting the most important names in global mining and mining investment. Venkat joins other important figures, including Mark Cutifani, Valli Moosa, Robert Friedland, Graham Briggs, Bernard Swanepoel, Mike Teke, Michael Spicer, Mike Schmidt, Peter Steenkamp, Colin Coleman, Prof. Adam Habib and other key role-players in the local and global resources sector.

These delegates will lead a dialogue aimed at addressing serious issues affecting investment and challenges in the resource and mining space.
